Website for a Netherlands client

During the last year of my degree, I conducted some work experience with a Netherlands client who wanted a travel website. He wanted it to show off the trips, using images and detailed explanations. He also wanted to acquire a booking system where the customers could book and pay there trips on the website. The booking system was customised extensively to suit the clients’ needs, including adding custom checkout fields. The website was built on the principles of the Agile methodology, where the website was reviewed, given feedback and improved. This was a repetetive process but led to a sucessful websote the client was happy with.

The website included a translator plugin as well to accomodate the needs of the client who wanted the website to be English, Danish, French and German.

The website also acquired an image gallery, where customers could view images related to the company’s travel services.

I also added a contact form with a Recaptcha feature, which prevented spam bots contacting the client.

I had to develop booking features to allow a customer to choose a specific touring event. Each event could be 6 days, 8, 10 or 12, meaning customers would have to book an event that meets their required length of stay. On the events page would be a list of available events, with each one asking how many people would be attending the trip and a choice of service package. The service package was based on the standard of service for each trip, with the most basic service costing the least and the luxuary service being the most expensive, acquiring hotel additional leisure activities and hotel bookings all included in the luxuary package.

Once they click on an event, they can enter how many people will be attending and which service package they want to pay for i.e. Basic, Plus or Deluxe.

Customers could also hire a car during their travels, purchasing either a Luxuary, Standard or Basic car.

Once a customer clicks on a car, they can enter how many days they would like the car for and add it to the cart for checkout later on.
